“We must never settle for minimal transport; we must dream and enact new and better pleasures, other ways of being in the world, and ultimately new worlds”- José Esteban Muñoz.
FAIRYLAND was a one night special event to create a sacred space in times of uncertainty. A night of ensemble dance numbers, drag performances, stand-up comedy, heartfelt storytelling, vocal performances, and live music. This show championed body positivity and sex positivity within the queer experience, creating a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere. Directed, produced and choreographed by Michael C. Flores, Brady Van Patten and Katie Gucik.
Born from a text thread from Instagram DMs that dates back to 2016, this piece excavates a digital conversation between two young gays as they cautiously navigate desire, identity, and connection. What begins as casual banter—about Starbucks, theatre, and Halloween—reveals a deeper exploration of queer self-performance and the masks we wear to be seen. The piece seeks to examine duality, control, and the longing to slip into something more true. Part archive, part confession, this is a swan dive into the desire to be desired.
Devised and presented as a final project in Directors Seminar, Spring 2025 at UIowa.
Combining devised theatre with dance/movement; Michael gathered close friend's and colleagues to create in depth, personal pieces that reflected the idea of how memory's can affect the human experience. Memories are what remains when an experience is completed. They exist to help us reproduce and recall the lessons we have learned. Colliding media projections to physical storytelling, MEMORY was a 3-day event of special presentation, and was produced August of 2022
